Safety Tips With Us
At Bare Africa, your comfort and skin safety are our priority. Please read the following care and application information carefully before using any of our products to ensure the best possible experience.
Before You Apply — Skin Preparation
For all Bare Africa products, your skin must be:
- Clean and completely dry
- Free from oils, lotions, moisturisers, and sunscreen
- Free from irritation, sunburn, or broken skin
Do not apply any product to skin that is warm, sunburned, freshly shaved, or sensitised. Always perform a patch test on a small area of skin 24 hours before first use.
Applying Your Breast Tape
- Cut the tape to your desired length and shape before applying
- Round the edges of the tape to help prevent peeling
- Apply slowly and smooth down firmly, working from the centre outward
- Avoid stretching the tape too tightly against the skin
- Do not apply over nipples — use nipple covers underneath for protection
Wear Time
Breast tape is designed for event wear only. The recommended wear time is 6–8 hours maximum. Wearing tape for longer than 10–12 hours significantly increases the risk of skin irritation, blistering, redness, and painful removal.
For sensitive skin, we recommend a maximum of 4–6 hours.
Important
- Do not sleep in breast tape. Always remove before bed.
- Our breast tape is waterproof and sweatproof, but this does not mean it should be worn for extended periods.
- Avoid wearing in extreme heat for prolonged periods as this can affect adhesion and skin comfort.
Applying Your Nipple Covers
- Ensure skin is clean and completely dry before applying
- Peel the cover gently from the backing and centre over the nipple
- Press down firmly from the centre outward to secure
- Smooth out any edges to ensure full adhesion
Reusability
With proper care, our silicone nipple covers last 15–20 wears. After each use, rinse gently with mild soap and lukewarm water, allow to air dry completely, and store on the original backing or a flat surface away from dust and lint.
Applying Your Double Sided Tape
- Cut strips to your desired length before applying
- Apply one side to clean, dry skin and press firmly
- Peel the remaining backing and press your fabric onto it
- Smooth down firmly to secure both skin and fabric
Double sided tape is intended for single use only and is best suited for lightweight to medium weight fabrics.
Removing Your Products
Breast Tape
- Do not attempt to remove the tape dry — this is the most common cause of skin damage, marking, and blistering
- Begin by applying a generous amount of body oil or baby oil directly onto the tape and the skin around the edges
- Allow the oil to soak into the adhesive for a minimum of 20 minutes before attempting removal
- After soaking, work slowly and gently from the bottom edge upward, supporting the skin with your other hand as you go
- At no point should you feel pain or strong resistance — if you do, stop immediately, apply more oil, and wait longer
- With sufficient oil and time, the adhesive will begin to break down and the tape will loosen naturally — allow this process to happen at its own pace
- Reapply oil as many times as needed throughout the process
- After full removal, cleanse the area gently with a mild soap and allow the skin to fully rest and recover
Nipple Covers & Double Sided Tape
Peel away gently from the edges. If any residue remains, use a small amount of oil or micellar water to remove cleanly.
Skin Sensitivity & Allergies
We recommend extra caution if you have:
- Sensitive or reactive skin
- Known adhesive or latex allergies
- Mature or thin skin (50+ years)
- Recently waxed, shaved, or exfoliated skin
- Any active skin condition, irritation, or open wounds in the application area
Always perform a 24-hour patch test before first use. If you experience any redness, itching, burning, or discomfort during wear, remove the product immediately and allow the skin to recover fully before trying again.
